about

Painting is a pure accumulation of my rich life events: growing up Catholic, being a competitive athlete, attending a military academy, and becoming a wife and mother. Loaded themes dominate my work: birth, self, environment, and death. The landscape, the figure, or an intermingling of the two comprises my subject matter. I paint to communicate what’s important to me in hopes of connecting with the world.

I work on a variety of paintings at once, each being a word in the sentence, the paragraph, the story. The paintings promenade together—they share colors, forms and ideas. I launch from an internalized, emotional point of departure rather than adhering to the intellectual and material tidiness of much conceptual and postmodern art. Self-expression is my strength. I hope that by being expressive in my paintings I can give people courage to communicate unwieldy emotions. I want to spread feelings of power and self-esteem and capability. I want to inspire viewers to do something natural. And mostly, I hope I help them feel in some way connected to our big, overwhelming world.
